Running Recap

Saturday I went to my run group unsure exactly how far I was going to run.   I was thinking somewhere between 4-5 miles.  When I showed up I learned the plan was to do a 5k route some as many as 5 times.   It was an out and back route with water stops at each 5k.  If I went out and back that would be 6 miles and change... I didn't know if I had all that in me, but couldn't make up my mind, so I started running.  I got to the 2.5 mile mark and was trying to decide if I should turn around.  One of the run group coaches named John was waiting at the 5k mark.  I hadn't told anyone I might not go all the way, and didn't want to make him nervous so I continued on.  I made it all the way to the 5k mark stopped and took my water break.  At that point I was feeling pretty good and had no choice but to get back to my car either by walking or running.  I made it back and overall ran 6 miles in 1 hour and 10 minutes.  I am slow.  Slow Slow Slow.  I have a workout shirt with a picture of a turtle on it that says.  "I AM Running"   I was wearing that yesterday and realized two things.  One it's not really designed for working out as it doesn't seem to be very breathable and two, the turtle on the shirt was laughing at how slow I am.

I'm proud of myself for knocking out 6 miles.  I'll probably cut it back next week as I don't want to over do it and end up hurt.  I'm looking forward to seeing the times drop each week as I get back into shape.  I'm hoping as the weather cools Greyson will be able to join me on a few short runs in the stroller of course.

Tonight's workout was  a tough one partial because on Monday nights I run at 6pm which is pretty hot in August and partial because I was sore from Saturday.   I know run group is helping.  There is no way I would have gotten out and gotten running this evening on my own.  The fact that people are expecting me is such a driving force when it comes to working out for me.
