Running Recap
Saturday I went to my run group unsure exactly how far I was going to run. I was thinking somewhere between 4-5 miles. When I showed up I learned the plan was to do a 5k route some as many as 5 times. It was an out and back route with water stops at each 5k. If I went out and back that would be 6 miles and change... I didn't know if I had all that in me, but couldn't make up my mind, so I started running. I got to the 2.5 mile mark and was trying to decide if I should turn around. One of the run group coaches named John was waiting at the 5k mark. I hadn't told anyone I might not go all the way, and didn't want to make him nervous so I continued on. I made it all the way to the 5k mark stopped and took my water break. At that point I was feeling pretty good and had no choice but to get back to my car either by walking or running. I made it back and overall ran 6 miles in 1 hour and 10 minutes. I am slow. Slow Slow Slow. I have a workout shirt with a picture of a turtle on it that says. "I AM Running" I was wearing that yesterday and realized two things. One it's not really designed for working out as it doesn't seem to be very breathable and two, the turtle on the shirt was laughing at how slow I am.
I'm proud of myself for knocking out 6 miles. I'll probably cut it back next week as I don't want to over do it and end up hurt. I'm looking forward to seeing the times drop each week as I get back into shape. I'm hoping as the weather cools Greyson will be able to join me on a few short runs in the stroller of course.
Tonight's workout was a tough one partial because on Monday nights I run at 6pm which is pretty hot in August and partial because I was sore from Saturday. I know run group is helping. There is no way I would have gotten out and gotten running this evening on my own. The fact that people are expecting me is such a driving force when it comes to working out for me.

Segway Polo
Jake's coworkers husband owns a Segway Tours business and has been trying to get people to come play Segway Polo for several weeks. The Segways have big knobby tires so they can be maneuvered on grass and gravel etc.
They'd made plans to go and play several times, but something happened to the field so they kept having to postpone, plus with the 100 degrees temps it just wasn't coming together.
This past Thursday everything finally came together, the weather was a balmy 91 degrees the weather was holding off for the moment, so Jake Greyson and I headed out to the Stockyards. Greyson and I would just be spectators.

Greyson was cheering for his dad
Jake on the Segway.
It was hard to get some good photos of the game, but it was fun to watch. Lots of people took some pretty good spills, Jake included, but nobody was hurt and everyone had a pretty good time.

Friends, Family and Farmland
This weekend we attended our good friend Mike's wedding. Mike was Jake's roommate when we first started dating and was a groomsman in our wedding.
He married a great girl named Arleigh who I wish we knew better but she's a pretty darn sweet girl herself. We got to see some really great friends and spent two nights laughing and catching up, and wishing we didn't live 1000 miles away.
We also got to have a short visit with my mom and dad on Thursday and again on Sunday before we headed back on Monday.
We had two long car trips as Mike and Arleigh have decided to make small town Iowa their home. We got to see a lot of corn and soybeans on our drive.
Both momma and the G man got a little stircrazy in the backseat and somebody put a diaper on the babies head!

Long Day
Today was a very long day for me. Two of my coworkers had planned vacation time today and the third had a family emergency on Friday and wasn't in today. I work in a help desk environment so that left me to answer the phones by myself... from 7am-5:30pm. Then because I'm committed (at least for the first week) and because I paid for it, I had run group this evening. I am exhausted and going to bed. Tomorrow Gman turns 7 months, I'm working on a post that will actually contain some photos but that will have to wait until tomorrow, I'm going to bed!

Back to running
This week the temps hit 108 so what better time to start working out again. I have tried a couple of times to get back running but I know myself and know I'm a goal orientated exerciser. Tuesday of this week I signed up for my second half marathon. I'll be running the Dallas Half on Dec 9th. Believe it or not that 19 1/2 weeks from now. To help me meet my goal I've joined a running group. My good friends at Enduralab have a 20 week training program. This morning I managed to get up at 5:40 am pull myself out of bed and get to the gym. Not looking forward to a lot of 6am workouts but looking forward to getting back into shape.

Wecome
What's do people say? A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step? Well here I am attempting to step back into the blogging world. Our life has changed so much since I started Longhorn Lucy. For one thing, Bentley's been jealous the entire time! Oh and there is that little thing of having a baby. It seems to be time to retire Longhorn Lucy and start a new blog. So admitedly everything with this blog is going to be a work in progress. For now the working title is simply "The Good Family"
Come back and visit us, there will be baby Greyson pictures, maybe a few things we've been up to, recipes and restaurant reviews because we still really like to eat, maybe a picture or two of Longhorn Lucy because she's still around here too.
